Dear Sisters,

Hello, I just finished importing a lot of content manually using previously archived versions of the Camp Trans website in the Internet Archive. I’ve imported as much of the “news” on the Camp Trans website as I could access but I couldn’t access anything past that date. If you have any information, materials or stuff you want to contribute to the site, please mention it in the forums.
Update: The site is pretty much up and running, the forum is set up and I think everything is working fine. If not, please comment on this post and let me know.
Update: Currently importing old news posts from the old website into a format that can be archived/displayed here. I should have that done by the end of the day.
Hey there. So yeah, I just installed the WordPress software on the site and I am working on bringing content from the old site into the new site. I am doing this through a copy archived on the Internet Archive. I hope to have this done by tonight.
Hello Community,
I am so happy about the outpouring of support from these musicians who are choosing to stand on the right side of history, either standing against the festival and vowing never to play again or pulling out of the festival altogether. I want to make it clear that these people deserve our support, our attention and our thanks.
Now, you might be asking me, why should we thank people for doing the right thing? Shouldn’t people do this already? Well, yes, people should do the right thing without prompting or positive reinforcement. But the fact of the matter is that not enough people know that this is the right thing to do, so a little positive reinforcement goes a long way. In a world where trans* people are disowned by family, harassed when they transact business around town and even killed - a little positive reinforcement when people get it right goes a long way.
Because of the actions of Andrea Gibson and Sick of Sarah, I am very interested in their music and I have deepened my fandom of the Indigo Girls and their music. Conversely, because of the lukewarm words of Jill Sobule, her music is starting to become anathema to me.
So, I urge people to thank these artists, even if you have no interest in their music - just write them a thank you note, telling them that you appreciate what they do. Let them know that we appreciate their actions, because I am certain people will yell loudly about how these musicians are “betraying” their bigotry.
Love,
Jessica
Ready for camp?
Camp Trans 2011 is July 24 - 31!
Need directions or airport/bus pickups? Email us at [email protected]. The sooner the better as we will have limited access to email once camp starts.
Need a ride or have room to spare in your car? Go to the ride boards in the community forums. (If you’ve signed up for the forum to post on the ride board and are having trouble getting access, email us and I’ll get your account approved right away.)
If you can, please come on Saturday and help us setup! We’re expecting fewer people this year so every hand really helps.
Got a workshop idea? Do it!
Camp Trans cordially invites all workshop submissions for Camp Trans 2011.
Every year, Camp Trans has workshops and caucuses on a wide variety of topics and decadent themes throughout the week. Workshops are a great way to share your expertise, non-expertise, knowledge, ridiculous passions, and organized hunches with other attendees. This is how we share our skills and build a beautiful community of communities. Plus they’re fun.
We welcome workshop proposals from people of every identity, on a diversity of topics. This is not a conference, and the workshops and activities we organize at Camp Trans come from people like you (and me and us!) stepping up and offering to design a workshop. (Everyone’s a teacher, everyone’s a student.) Workshops can be, but do not have to be explicitly trans-oriented.
In the past, we’ve had workshops on themes that explore prison solidarity, de-colonization, organizing & community building, identities, hormones and surgery, relationships, flirting, tree climbing, really all sorts of DIY skillsharing, (dis)ability activism, artsy crafting, moving to a beat, and clowning around, for example and to name several past themes.
If you have an interest that you are passionate about and would like to share it-that’s what we’re looking for, non-experts and experts alike. You can structure your proposition as a formal workshop, a group activity, a guided discussion, an informal caucus, or some other format.
We particularly encourage workshops on topics that acknowledge the necessity of solidarity with other oppressed/marginalized peoples, and that tie the struggle for trans liberation in with other struggles.
To propose a workshop, email your proposal to us at [email protected].
Proposals should include:
DEADLINE: Midnight on Sunday, JUNE 24th 2011 **Write down the submission deadline**
If you miss this deadline, we will actually still gladly accept your workshop proposals and see what we can work out. But having your proposals in by Sunday, June 24th 2011 would be the most respectful and most awesome, to ensure that we have enough scheduling time and space.
In sum, we’re looking forward to all of your proposals! If you have any questions or concerns, you can email us at [email protected]. Rye (that’s me writing this!) is the workshop coordinator for this year and will be the person scheduling and answering workshop-related emails.
Also, you can download the flyer here! (Note from Jessica: Flyer was available on the old site but I was unable to retrieve it)
Have a fabulous Spring!
Yours,
Rye and the Cat-Herders for Camp Trans 2011
The purpose of this message is to let you all know about some changes that are going to be happening regarding Camp Trans’ existence. The current organizers are in want/need of community (past and present, or whatever) input to help guide decision making and organizing process!
In sum, hands down, we ARE going to take a step back from our focus on MichFest this year. Instead, this year we’d like to put our energy fully into reviving the beautiful, celebratory, demanding, and decadent trans & allied community that Camp Trans was always meant to be, in and of its own. This re-focusing has been a long time coming, and after Camp this past year, we have determined that now seems to be the ripest time for this needed re-focusing, (wherever that may lead us).
So if you have ANY interest in contributing your input to our decision making re: where our future Camp Trans goes, what we become, what we don’t become, or anything else you have interest in contributing, please please please visit the forum on the website and participate in that conversation! More details explaining things are both on that forum, and forthcoming.
To get to the forum, go to:
Otherwise, I hope that you all are good and shaking things up wherever you go (or whatever you want to be doing). And thanks for giving your input-it’s very much appreciated.
CALL FOR WORKSHOPS CAMP TRANS 2010 - PLEASE DISTRIBUTE WIDELY
Hi, I’m gayge, and I’ll be helping to schedule and coordinate workshops and caucuses for Camp Trans again this year. Every year, we have workshops and caucuses on a variety of topics connected to trans issues or of interest to trans people. Workshops are a great way to share your expertise and knowledge with other attendees, and also are a whole lot of fun. We welcome workshop proposals from people of every identity and on a diversity of topics. In the past, we’ve had
workshops on such topics as being in solidarity to other oppressed groups, identity, hormones and surgery, relationships, flirting, organizing, and a wide range of other topics. Workshops and caucuses are generally an hour and a half, and you can structure it as a formal workshop, a group activity, a guided discussion, an informal caucus, or some other format.
We particularly encourage workshops on topics such as working in solidarity with other oppressed groups, experiences of how other oppressions intersect with trans*ness, or that tie the struggle for trans liberation in with other struggles.
Some caucuses that are already planned for camp trans this year are a people of color caucus and several trans caucuses, including a genderqueer caucus.
To propose a workshop, email me at [email protected]. Let me know that you have a proposal for a workshop or caucus in the subject of the email, and please include your proposal as an
attachment. Your proposal should include your name and pronoun preference (and those of any copresenters), your contact info (email and phone), the name of your workshop or caucus, a 200 word
description of your workshop/caucus including its goal and how it will be structured, whether it will be open to the entire camp population or limited to a specific population (generally, workshops are open and caucuses are limited to a specific group or a fishbowl, however, both closed workshops and open caucuses are great!), and a 100 word or less bio of each presenter. Also, if you feel that your workshop or caucus would benefit from having an advocate present, or want or need any other accommodations, please let me know. If at all possible, please send these proposals by July 23rd, so we can have plenty of time to structure a schedule and publicize the workshops we’ll be offering at Camp!
Not sure if you can make Camp? Worried that you’ll get there and suddenly have a brilliant idea for a discussion group or a group activity? Don’t worry! We’re also going to make sure to once again include plenty of room for workshops and caucuses planned right at Camp Trans. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone’s workshop proposals and helping to make workshops and caucuses rewarding, educational, and fun experiences for everyone interested in presenting and attending.
